About
My name is Renee Heenan
I spent many years on my science education studying biology, respiratory therapy, and genetics. One day I hit full stop and dropped my scientific ego when I realized science is limited to our current amount of knowledge and more than half of the research is biasedly flawed. Reflecting on my family history, I pivoted into Eastern Medicine. I trained in functional bodywork, neuro-muscular techniques, Japanese acupuncture, neo-classical acupuncture, & other various Japanese techniques. Now, I'm doing what I truely love; supporting the body to heal on its own without the science ego, research limitations, and greed. If you're frustrated with modern care, I'd love to work with you.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does acupuncture hurt?
No. Honestly, sometimes there may be a small pinch. It varies treatment to treatment. The vast majority do not hurt.
Acupuncture needles are very thin, unlike hollow hypodermic needles used to administer medications or draw blood. Instead of adding or removing substances from the body, acupuncture needles work with the communication systems of the body, historically called qi (chi).
Is acupuncture safe?
When performed by someone appropriately trained, yes.
Are the needles reused?
The needles are single use and disposed as medical waste.
How is this different from dry needling?
Dry Needling falls under the Acupuncture Umbrella. It uses the same needles, however the site location, technique, and theory behind it are different.
Dry needling focuses on releasing tension from specific muscles and needles are not retained.
Acupuncture, systematically uses known points on the whole body to work with a variety of complaints (musculoskeletal issues, chronic dis-ease, mental-emotional stress, etc.) and the needles are retained 10-45 minutes.
What does a session look like?
We begin with assessment. This begins with discussing the issues and concerns you may have. Often, I may ask to look at your tongue and feel your pulses. Then the client lays on the table and I continue the assessment with hands on diagnostics, feeling the abdomen, arms, legs… even if that’s not where your complaint is located.
All of this assessment is used to help me find your pattern and your treatment. Because no two headaches are the same. No two backaches. No two people with constipation, are the same.
The needles are inserted and the client remains on the table relaxing to gentle music and PEMF for 15-20 minutes (up to 45 minutes).
Sometimes other techniques are added such as electrical stimulation, massage, cupping, far-infra red, or gua sha.
How should I prepare?
Please wear loose clothing if possible. This is so I can access more points for your treatment. I never needle through clothing.
